I picked up a camera because I was drawn to people. To what happens when someone stops performing for a second and you catch them just being themselves. That is the shot I am always after.
I have been doing this in Tulsa for over ten years. Families, weddings, portraits. I have been in the room for a lot of significant moments in people's lives and I do not take that lightly. When you hire me you are trusting me with something real.
I try to earn that every time.
My background is in storytelling. I think in terms of the whole picture, not just the individual frame. For a wedding that means I am not just documenting what happens. I am paying attention to the worn hands of a father walking his daughter down the aisle, the exhale right before the doors open, the look between two people that says more than any vow could. Those are the images people come back to thirty years later.
For families it is different but the instinct is the same. I am not trying to make you look perfect. I am trying to make you look like you. The real version. The one your kids will recognize when they are grown and looking back at these photos.
